Day 12, Week 2: Thursday 1 May 2025

A brutal day! Oh my gosh, 71 miles and 4,800 ft elevation gain. Seneca Lake to Buckeye Lake, Ohio.A true test of our legs today.

Here are the RidewithGPS stats:

The weather was really nice, and the terrain was spectacular. Rolling hills, farmland and small towns. Real Americana out here. It’s interesting in that we are not following rivers so roads can go up and down all day long. It is exhilarating cruising down long hills at 30 mph, then blasting up the next, only to slow down for the last 100 ft powering your way up 5-10% inclines. But everyone is getting in shape and quite amazingly we are ready to go the next day. Don’t feel sore at all.

For this ride, I promised myself a trip to Kentucky Fried Chicken in Zanesville, and that helped get me through the first 40 miles! The last 20 were brutal not so much for the hilliness, but we had some really strong 20-30 mph crosswinds and we were on a fairly major road so we were being blown all over the place. So at the end of the day we were all pretty tapped out. The good thing was that a cold beer was waiting for me when I rolled in to Buckeye lake. It’s nice having the van support. And no rain!!!!
