Biking across the USA with Mike

Just retired in January and have been wanting to do this for a while. I now have the time!! The route starts in DC, taking the C&O canal trail and then the Great Allegheny Passage through Maryland and Pennsylvania. Then on across Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri, cutting through the top of Kansas, the bottom of Nebraska, then across the top of Colorado where we catch the Transamerica Bike Trail and head into the Rocky Mountains! After a short venture into Wyoming, we progress into Montana, then Idaho and finally cross the state of Oregon to reach the coast at Florence, about 60 miles to the west of Eugene. Links to my posts as I go along will be at the bottom of this page.

We will be stopping over for rest days at the following locations. I would appreciate any tips on places to go, things to see. Please post a comment below- I accept any and all suggestions!

  • Pittsburgh PA
  • Mt. Sterling OH
  • Atchison KS
  • McCook NE
  • Fort Collins CO
  • Colter Bay Village WY
  • West Yellowstone MT
  • Missoula MT
  • Baker City OR

Here is the week by week itinerary.

I have a link to our day by day schedule, with addresses and phone numbers for each of our stops. I accept any and all care packages along the route!! If you send something, please contact the location at the phone number provided to verify mailing address and be sure to indicate “Michael Hill, Adventure Cycling ” in the address. You should aim to send it to arrive several days in advance of our arrival at that location. Just shoot me a text or email (see Contact Info page) so I can make sure to contact the location office upon my arrival.

Below are my recent daily posts. I will be trying to post each day but due to lack of wifi or maybe due to lack of energy, I may not be posting that often!! I’ll try to include snapshots of the Strava route as recorded on my GPS with all the vital statistics, as well as some photos and videos I take along the way.

Below are the post archives for all my earlier posts.
